Weighted Search

Weighted Search (Relevancy)

Weighted Search helps you understand why products appear in search results - and gives you control to optimise them.

Previously, search relevancy relied on a complex algorithm, which made it difficult to troubleshoot when results didn’t appear as expected. Weighted Search introduces visible scoring, so you can clearly see how results are ranked and adjust your configuration with confidence.

How relevancy scoring works

Search results are ranked based on weighted values assigned to product data.

Each attribute contributes to the total score, such as:

  • Title

  • Tags

  • Attributes (e.g. colour, category)

  • Synonyms

For example: If a shopper searches “green shirt”:

  • “Green” in the title contributes weight

  • “Shirt” in the title contributes weight

  • Synonym matches also contribute weight

Products with higher total scores appear higher in results.

Understand why products appear

Weighted Search removes the guesswork.

You can:

  • Test what the results will be and see the exact score assigned to each product

  • Understand which fields influenced the result

  • Identify missing tags or attributes

  • Troubleshoot search behaviour quickly

This helps you explain search outcomes internally and make confident merchandising decisions.

Boosting rules

Boosting rules still apply and may override standard weighting.

For example:

  • A product with a lower score may appear higher due to a boost

  • Removing the boost returns results to pure weighted order

This makes it easier to distinguish between:

  • Organic relevance

  • Intentional merchandising

What you’ll see

  • Configuration

The configuration page now includes two sections:

    • Searchable fields (new weighted search configuration)

    • Relevancy (Legacy)

You can opt in to Weighted Search using the button in the banner. Before enabling, your Reactify storefront package must be upgraded to the latest version by your developer (see Front-end requirements below).

Searchable fields

Within the Searchable fields section, you can configure how results are weighted. This works similarly to the previous relevancy setup, but with greater visibility into scoring and results.

You don’t need to add too many configurations here. Keeping things simple will deliver the best outcomes and make results easier to understand and manage.

We recommend starting with:

  • Title

  • Colour

You can expand your configuration over time as needed.

Test before enabling

You can test results using the search preview experience before enabling Weighted Search.

To preview results:

  1. Navigate to Merchandising > Search

  2. Create a Search collection

  3. Enter your desired search term

This will display scored results in real time, allowing you to see how products are ranked and why they appear.

At the top of the page, select Set mode to switch between:

  • Relevancy- Based (Legacy)

  • Weighted search (New)

This allows you to compare how results change between configurations and understand the impact of weighting.

You’ll also be able to see when boosting rules are applied, as boosted products may override standard weighted ranking. This helps you clearly identify whether a result is appearing due to relevancy scoring or merchandising rules.

Configure weighting

Configuration works similarly to existing relevancy settings.

You can:

  • Assign weight to fields (e.g. title, colour, tags)

  • Align weighting to your business priorities

  • Adjust over time as search behaviour evolves

Best practice: Start simple and expand gradually. Too many rules or synonyms can reduce clarity and performance.

Front-end requirements

You can opt in to Weighted Search at any time to begin testing and configuring within the Reactify portal.

However, opting in will not apply the new search results on your storefront until your Reactify search package has been updated to the latest version.

To activate Weighted Search on the front end:

  • Your storefront search package must be upgraded

  • Your agency or developers may need to assist with this update

Once the package has been updated, Weighted Search can be enabled on your storefront and will begin influencing live search results.
